Okomfo Anokye

 *Okomfo Anokye*,

also known as Kwame Anokye Frimpon Kotobre, was a fetish priest (a traditional spiritual leader) and co-founder of the Asante empire. He was regarded as the greatest lawgiver and wisest sage of the Asante people in western Africa. Okomfo Anokye was born in the Akwapim region of what is now Ghana in around 1655. He is renowned for developing moral rules and for his purported powers of healing and controlling nature.

*What *Okomfo Anokye* was holding in his palms during birth? *

During birth, his two palms were tightly clasped together and were impossible to separate. About two years into his childhood, his parents tried and successfully split his palms in order to see what he was holding in his hands. Totem poles believed to be from the gods were in his palm.

Anokye was born and nurtured in Akwapim, a well-known fetish town.  He changed his name to Okomfo, which is typically translated as "priest" in English, and became a fetish priest. He met Osei Tutu, and the two got along well. Together, they laid the intellectual, political, and legal groundwork for the Asante empire. Many of the regional governments are thought to have been persuaded to join under Osei Tutu and gain military and political strength, which they could use to combat their foes, thanks to Anokye's persuasive oratory talents and significant intellectual and psychological aptitude, according to historians.

Who established the ASANTE KINGDOM?

By 1695, Anokye and Osei Tutu had established Kumasi as the nation's capital, set up the state councils, restructured the army in accordance with a new military doctrine, and sworn allegiance to all of the area's petty monarchs. The renowned Golden Stool, the Asante people's unifying emblem that recognized Osei Tutu as the first Asantehene and ruler of the fledgling Asante empire, was created by Anokye.

In 1699, Asante declared war on Denkyera, the dominant neighboring country. The Asante army had to drive the Denkyera army back from the gates of Kumasi during the two-year conflict. When Anokye allegedly chanted incantations to the Denkyera troops, it is stated that he changed the course of the fight. The conflict, which had been going poorly for the Asante army, rapidly changed in Asante's favor as soon as a large number of their generals defected to the Asante side. Anokye was regarded as one of the best priests ever after that. Although the precise circumstances of his passing are unclear, others assert that he passed away in Akwapim in 1717

*Okomfo Anokye* heroic moments and stories

When the Asante country first emerged, Anokye had a significant influence on it. He is credited as being the main architect of Asante laws, customs, and religious and paranormal beliefs. He has a history of heroic actions and healing miracles. He is reported to have done things like climb palm trees while wearing sandals and use his bare fingers to carve a game of Oware (a strategy game that uses shallow indentations and stones or the like) out of a stone slab. In Ghana's Awukugua, the stone slab and the sandals are on exhibit. Rivers have been redirected, Asante institutions have been reorganized, water has been obtained in a basket without a drop leaking, and the Golden Stool has been ordered to descend on specific locations, among other feats of Anokye.

Anokye was memorialized through poetry and songs written by the Asante. His notoriety and reputation increased greatly after his passing, and the Asante still recall his warning that the country would fall into anarchy if the Golden Stool were ever destroyed or taken by the Asante's enemies.
